Da Lat flower festival kicks off with myriad of activities
The 2015 Da Lat Flower Festival opened in Da Lat city, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on December 29 with a range of events, including a flower and ornamental tree exhibition, a flower space around Xuan Huong Lake, flower-themed calligraphy, paintings and photos displays, and a vegetable-flower fair.
The flower and ornamental tree exhibition features tens of thousands of flowerpots and flower-decorated spaces arranged by a group of artisans nationwide. Visitors also have a chance to view a Vietnamese orchid space with 900 kinds of orchid, including many rare species.
The Xuan Huong Lake flower space was prepared by the Da Lat Flower Association in conjunction with 32 flower producers and traders and three traditional flower villages - Van Thanh, Thai Phien and Ha Dong from Da Lat city. The space features 30 flower-decorated areas surrounding the Xuan Huong Lake.
Over 18,000 flowerpots along with paintings are being arranged along Le Dai Hanh Street and Ong Dao Bridge, making it the most beautiful flower space of this year’s festival.
Meanwhile, the 70-booth vegetable-flower fair is taking place in Nguyen Van Cu Street with the participation of 40 flower enterprises, villages and co-operatives and farmers.
The festival is hoped to offer a good chance to flower and vegetable growers in Da Lat as well as businesses and investors inside and outside the country to seek co-operation and boost trade in the field, said Vo Ngoc Hiep, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.
It will also help promote the locality’s flower and vegetable trademarks to domestic and foreign consumers, he noted.
An official opening ceremony will be held in the evening of December 29. The largest-ever festival, themed “Da Lat – Multitude of flower colours”, will run through January 2. It is expected to attract about 500,000 tourists to Da Lat, exceeding the number of arrivals during the last festivals.
