Youtuber: Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey

Vietnamese student in Australia launches Youtube channel to introduce Vietnamese food

Beginning today, July 7, those people with a strong affection for tourism combined with gastronomy will find it easier to explore beautiful tourist spots and peculiar dishes of many regions across the country, via a new Youtube channel named Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey. The Youtube site, at https://youtu.be/CAgyqvcamGA, is launched by Nguyen Khanh Vuong Anh, a Vietnamese student pursuing cooking art study in Sydney, Australia.

With Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey, the spectator will have access to video clips depicting breath-taking views from the Northwest upland to the Mekong Delta that also show the locals’ work-a-day lifestyle as well as the distinguished culture and gastronomy of different regions.

At each destination, Vuong Anh will give instructions on how to prepare a special dish from ingredients endemic to the locale that she purchases at the markets she drops by. Such specialties include Duck Salad at Cao Phong in Hoa Binh Province, Moc Chau grilled pork and calf roll in Moc Chau Plateau, grilled quail in Tua Chua of Dien Bien, black-boned chicken stewed with veggies in Lai Chau, or hotpot of sturgeon in Sapa.

Between December 2017 and June 2018, Vuong Anh has made 14 video clips for Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey. This September, she will set for the Northeast Region for the new clips, and will continue her journey to all cities and provinces across the country. Each clip spans some five to six minutes and is introduced in English.

“Initially, I planned to visit the Northwest Region to learn about two well-known spices locally known as Mac Khen and Cham Cheo to enrich my knowledge about food ingredients, but then I changed my mind, not only to look into food ingredients but also to capture special cultural traits, beautiful venues and good foods in Vietnam to introduce to international friends,” Vuong Anh notes at the launch of Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey organized at Bep Nha Luc Tinh Restaurant, which is a special culinary venue of old-fashioned southern setting on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in HCM City.

Vuong Anh reveals that the topics for her clips are quite spontaneous, as she will capture any beautiful venue without pre-arranged intentions. Therefore, sometimes she makes a clip a day, sometimes two, and sometimes none. So are food specialties, which she prepares with available local ingredients whenever she feels an interesting urge.
“I do not have any plans beforehand what scenery will be taken and what dish will be prepared at any given venue, but all will be driven by my impulse, since only when having real feelings can I give inspiration to viewers,” Vuong Anh explains.

Expressing her devotion to tourism and cooking art, Vuong Anh says she inherits the spirit from her mother, Culinary Artist Doan Thi Thu Thuy. “Three years ago, when reading the book Hanh Trinh Mon Viet (Journey of Viet Foods), which introduces delicious dishes from the South to the North authored by my mother, I was inspired with a strong intention to make a pan-Viet journey to study the country’s cooking art. When knowing of my intention to visit the Northwest, mom encouraged me to make a fully-fledged program with video clips in English to introduce Vietnam to the world,” she confides.

Regarding her long-term plan for Vương Anh’s Cooking Journey, Vuong Anh says she not only wishes to let the world know about beauty spots and essenses of good foods of Vietnam, but also intends to organize similar programs abroad to introduce her friends in Vietnam to beautiful places and good foods of the world.

“And who knows! One day in the future, I may open a chain of Vietnamese restaurants abroad to introduce Vietnamese foods to the world,” she suggests.

Nguyen Khanh Vuong Anh, born in 1995, used to study interior design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, the U.S., and is now furthering her cooking study at Le Cordon Bleu, Sydney (Australia).
