NAROMA: “VIETNAMESE SCENT" DREAMING OF A GLOBAL JOURNEY

9/3/2025 12:22:29 PM

A young man believes that every beauty of Vietnam from rice paddies and gentle melodies to childhood memories deserves to be preserved and told in a refined language: fragrance. That man is Pham Kim Quoc Cuong, the talented founder behind Naroma a perfume brand making waves with the mission of bringing “Vietnamese scents” to the world.

Pham Kim Quoc Cuong (VSK2019, Teaching and Learning in English program, Chemical Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology) and his team conducted hundreds of experiments and thousands of formulations to master a nano-emulsion perfume formula. As a student he created a successful prototype: #Naroma 01.

With a resilient yet romantic spirit, Cuong chose perfume as his entrepreneurial path, turning each drop of scent into not only an emotion but a piece of the soul of the S-shaped land. Naroma was born from that aspiration, becoming a mesmerizing intersection of modern technology and the art of traditional fragrance.

A breakthrough: Alcohol-free Perfume from Vietnamese Agricultural Produce

Naroma’s defining difference is its technology. Where conventional nanoemulsion perfumes often contain 5–10% alcohol, Naroma achieved the seemingly impossible. By researching and applying nano cellulose crystal (CNC) extracted from common Vietnamese agricultural byproducts such as straw, rice husks, and rice bran, Naroma created a water-based, 0% alcohol perfume line. The wonder is that these products can still dissolve up to 50% essential oils — remaining clear, projecting strongly, and long-lasting on the skin — while being safe, gentle, and environmentally friendly.

Telling Vietnamese Stories in the “Language of Scent”
Guided by the philosophy that “perfume is not only for beautification but a way to elevate emotions and connect people,” Naroma commits to using ingredients derived from Vietnamese crops and agricultural byproducts — such as ST25 rice, Thuoc Lao (Vietnamese tobacco), coffee grounds, and regional herbs. Each fragrance is more than a product; it is a cultural story evoked, a piece of Vietnamese memory.

The “Vietnamese Heritage” collection is the most vivid proof of this vision:

MADE BY VIETNAM - NAROMA
Ancient Capital Whisper — The whispers of Hanoi: Black tea, mint, Thanh Hoa tobacco blended with jasmine, immortelle, and smoky tobacco transport you to an autumn afternoon at Hoan Kiem Lake, finishing on tonka bean, hay, and saffron, portraying a thousand-year Thang Long of culture and history.

MADE BY VIETNAM - NAROMA
Royal Blossom of Sacred Land — The royal blooms of Hue: The regal spirit of the ancient capital through bergamot, green leaves, pink lotus, jasmine, bodhi, rose, and cinnamon, settling on rosewood, olibanum, agarwood, and amber.

MADE BY VIETNAM - NAROMA
Rice Field  - The rhythm of the Southern rice fields: The simple, peaceful scent of the Mekong Delta rice paddies, a familiar melody of home.

Write d Peace - The Price of Peace (coming soon): A contemplative statement scent that evokes sacrifice, with CO₂-extracted ma-khen, bright bergamot, and the somber residue of gunpowder and agarwood.

Midnight d Rain — Saigon’s night rain (coming soon): A bold creation depicting the sultry, visceral atmosphere of a Saigon night shower, with notes of rain, decayed leaves, sweat, liquor, and oak moss.

"Made by Vietnam"  Bringing Vietnam to the World
Naroma is proud to be a pioneering nano-perfume brand founded and developed by Vietnamese creators. “We want to assert that Vietnam is not only known for coffee, the ao dai, or cuisine, but can also tell stories through scent — a universal emotional language,” Cuong says. Each Naroma product is a unique fusion of local materials and advanced technology, with the vision of becoming a bridge to carry Vietnam’s aromatic identity to the five continents.

Where Technology Meets Nature
Naroma’s breakthrough is its pioneering use of nano cellulose crystal (CNC) — extracted from agricultural byproducts such as straw, rice husks, and rice bran. Thanks to this technology, Naroma developed completely alcohol-free perfumes that are as clear as water yet can dissolve up to 50% essential oil, achieving:
• Strong scent projection
• Long-lasting performance on skin
• Safe, gentle formulation for skin
• Environmentally friendly profile and contribution to a circular economy

“Naroma is the fusion of science and culture. I always want to bring the quintessence of Vietnamese scent into each bottle so the world knows that from a grain of rice, a drop of coffee, to the flowers of tradition, everything can be a source of inspiration. The scents of Naroma are Vietnam’s voice — gentle but powerful, traditional yet modern,” says young founder Pham Kim Quoc Cuong.

This is not only a step forward for the perfume industry but also opens a new approach: transforming agricultural byproducts into high-value creations and putting Vietnam on the global innovation map.
